Cats Trade For Defenseman Berg

GM and Head Coach Bill Rotheisler announced Tuesday that the Thunder Cats have acquired left-handed defensemen, Carter Berg, from the Castlegar Rebels.

Rotheisler feels that Berg will not only help the team on the ice but off it as well.

“We are fortunate to bring him into our organization. Finding a quality veteran presence on the backend is rare and he’s going to be a great mentor to the younger players on our team. To go deep in the playoffs, you need players like Carter, and he fits what we are trying to do here in Creston.”

In a text, Berg described himself as a solid two-way guy with an offensive mindset.

“ … I make a great first pass and see the ice really well. I like to lay the body and push my team to success.”

He is also looking forward to the challenge of improving himself off the ice as well.

“I’m looking forward to challenging my leadership qualities as a veteran in the league and on the ice to help push us Thunder Cats to have the best season possible, to reach new limits and goals.”

Berg, 19, has spent his past two seasons with the Rebels suiting up for 47 games and notching 10 points, including three assists in the only three games Castlegar was able to play in the 2020/2021 pandemic-shortened season.
