Creston Valley Thunder Cats alum Luke Chakrabarti (2021-24) was named the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Player of the Week on Dec. 2.

Chakrabarti plays for Vermont State University Castleton Spartans in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III and netted his second hat-trick in three games, including the game-winning goal in overtime to secure the 2024 Terry Moran Invitational Championship game. The first-year forward also provided two assists and was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

A week earlier, on Nov. 25, the Whiterock, B.C. native was named the NEHC Rookie of the Week.

Chakrabarti earned his first-career conference accolade after scoring four goals in Castleton’s two-game series against No. 12 Skidmore College. He scored Castleton’s lone goal in game one, then followed up the next day tallying three of the Spartans’ four goals for his first career hat-trick in just eight career games.

Chakrabarti leads the NEHC with eight goals and 12 points in 11 games and has 60 shots.

In 117 career Kootenay International Junior Hockey League regular season games, Chakrabarti had 83 goals, 103 assists for 186 points (10 points in 13 games with the Osoyoos Coyotes in 21-22). Chakrabarti added 41 points in 24 career KIJHL Teck Cup playoff games.
