Munro, Martin & Svenson KIJHL February 3 Stars

Liam Munro (Creston Valley Thunder Cats), Eric Martin (Fernie Ghostriders) and Kael Svenson (Sicamous Eagles) have been selected as the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Month for February.

Munro – Top Forward – The Calgary native scored seven goals and added seven assists in seven games, while playing an average of 26:33 a night and was plus seven. Munro had four multi-point performances for the Thunder Cats, starting with a two-goal, one assist effort in a 6-3 loss to the Golden Rockets on Feb. 7. On Feb. 14 against the Spokane Braves, Munro had two goals, including the winner, and two assists in a 6-3 win. On Feb. 15 in a 3-1 win over the Nelson Leafs, Munro had an assist and scored the insurance goal. Then on Feb. 21, in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Kimberley Dynamiters, Munro had a goal and three assists. He led the Thunder Cats with 49 points in 42 games.

Martin – Top Defenceman – The Edmonton native had a goal and 12 assists in eight games for the Ghostriders, while playing an average of 24:33 a game and having a plus seven rating. On Feb. 1 against the Grand Forks Border Bruins, Martin assisted on the overtime winner. Martin had three multi-point performances including two, three assist games. The first was on Feb. 15 against the Osoyoos Coyotes in an 8-2 win, then again on Feb. 18 against the Golden Rockets in a 5-4 win, which he assisted on the winner. Against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats on Feb. 22, he scored the opening goal and added two assists. This is Martin’s second Top Defenceman of the Month selection, earning the first one of the season. In 43 games, Martin had 11 goals and 48 assists for 59 points, which set a new single season high for Ghostriders defencemen. Martin was named the Eddie Mountain Division Top Defenceman.

Svenson – Top Goalie – The Calgary native went 2-2-0 in six games for the Eagles and saved 158 of 164 shots for a 1.50 goals against average and .963 save percentage during 241 minutes of action. On Feb.14, Svenson made 47 saves in a 5-2 win over the Revelstoke Grizzlies. A day later, in a 4-2 loss to the Grizzlies, Svenson made 42 saves. On Feb. 30, Svenson earned a 30-save shutout in an 8-0 win over the Osoyoos Coyotes. In 23 games, Svenson went 15-4-2 with a 2.40 GAA and a .941 SP. Svenson was named the Bill Ohlhausen Division’s Top Goalie.
