Luke Chakrabarti of the Creston Valley Thunder Cats, Lucas Sadownyk of the Princeton Posse and Owen Albers of the Beaver Valley Nitehawks have been selected as the KIJHL 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending, Jan. 23.
Chakrabarti – Top Forward – The White Rock, B.C. product helped the Thunder Cats earn three straight wins against the Golden Rockets twice – 3-2 and 6-3, and the Castlegar Rebels 6-1. Chakrabarti scored the winner in their first game against the Rockets, then collected three assists in the second matchup. He had two goals and three points against the Rebels. Since joining the Thunder Cats from the Osoyoos Coyotes in a trade, Chakrabarti has eight goals and 15 points in 11 games, which puts him seventh on the team in points. For the season, the 5-9, 140-pound forward has 12 goals and 25 points in 24 games.
Sadownyk – Top Defenceman – The St. Albert, Alberta product scored a goal and had four points in two games, helping the Posse earn wins over North Okanagan 4-3 in a shootout and 7-3 against Summerland. Against North Okanagan, Sadownyk assisted on a goal to give the Posse a 2-0 lead. Against Summerland, the 6-3, 165-pound defenceman had a goal and three points. Sadownyk assisted on Anmol Garcha’s eventual winner, giving the Posse a 4-2 lead. Sadownyk is fourth on the Posse in points with 16 points in 27 games, and leads their blueline in points. He ranks fifth among KIJHL rookie defencemen in points.
Albers – Top Goalie – The Calgary, Alberta product helped the Nitehawks earn wins against Castlegar, 4-1, and Grand Forks, 3-1. He turned aside 51 of 53 shots in both games combined, for a .962 SP and a 1.00 GAA. For the season, Albers has 10 wins in 19 games, with a .908 SP and a 3.28 GAA. Albers is fourth among KIJHL rookie goalies in wins, fifth in SP and fourth in GAA.
